What are you sowing these days?

There is a cast iron fact that God has written into the very fabric of creation which has marked every generation since the dawn of time; we reap what we sow.

In every other area of life we immediately get the point; if the farmer sows barley- he reaps barley. If he sows wheat- he reaps wheat- not exactly rocket science, is it? Pushing the boat out a little further, we hammer it into our kids (as our parents tried to hammer into us!) that if they put the work into school then they will reap good grades and on and on it goes.

However, this principle reaches far beyond crops and good grades. This is what the Bible says

‘Do not be deceived, God is not mocked; for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap. For he who sows to his flesh will of the flesh reap corruption, but he who sows to the Spirit will of the Spirit reap everlasting life’.

Did you realise that this day, and every day, you are sowing seed before God? To ‘sow according to the flesh’ is to live a life with disregard for your Creator; to live a self-absorbed life of moral indifference to God. To one and all the Bible sternly warns ‘do not be deceived- God will not be mocked’ and the harvest of such a life will be reaped in full on the judgment day; eternal corruption and destruction.

On the other hand there are those ‘who sow to the Spirit’- that means to live a life empowered by the Holy Spirit and to seek to honour God by trusting in Jesus (true Christianity is always a Trinitarian business). They, too, will reap a harvest that is described as ‘everlasting life’.

You and I, writer and reader, whether we realise it or not are sowing seed which will result in a harvest. And the harvest can only fall into one of the above mentioned categories.

So the question is; what kind of seed are you sowing?
