Would You Want to Know Your Future?

If you could know the future, would you want to? Many of us are keenly aware of our failings in the past, so perhaps we feel that we could have some confidence in the future. After all, have we not ‘learned’, ‘progressed’ and ‘evolved’, so much so, that our future would look great and we would like to have a look!

Yet, I very much suspect that, if we had the chance, few of us would have the nerve to look into the crystal ball- what if our futures were darker than our pasts?

Thankfully, this whole issue is a complete mind game as we will never have the chance. But one person was different; Jesus Christ. In John’s Gospel we read that on the night of his betrayal and arrest ‘Jesus therefore, knowing all things that would come upon Him, went forward...’. Jesus knew exactly what was going to happen- the beatings, the humiliation, the denial of justice, the nails, the crown of thorns and the crucifixion.

Jesus knew all of that was going to happen and yet ‘he went forward’. Why? Because He also knew that this was the only way that sinful people like you and me could be forgiven of our sins through His sin-bearing death on the cross.

Have you come to receive from Jesus this wonderful gift? It can only be received through repenting of your sins and placing your faith in Jesus alone. This is the one sure way of having a guaranteed golden eternal future!
