Apologies for another Facebook absence- I know that you are all out there waiting with baited breath for my every posting....- but I have spent the last 12 days in the UK speaking in churches.
In Romans Paul begins his letter by writing- Paul, a bondservant of Jesus Christ, called to be an apostle, separated to the gospel of God 2 which He promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures, 3 concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord
‘Gospel’ means good news but a certain kind of good news. From the above quotation we see two all- important truths.
Firstly, the Gospel must be defined and understood exclusively from what the ‘Holy Scriptures’ have to say (‘promised before through His prophets in the Holy Scriptures’). It doesn’t matter what anybody else says- be they an angel or the Pope- it is the word of God alone that forever defines what Gospel truth is.
Secondly, the Gospel is all about Jesus (‘concerning His Son Jesus Christ our Lord’); who He is and what He has done to buy salvation for ordinary people like you and me. If the Gospel was about what I had to do to earn heaven then it wouldn’t be good news.
Today, are you listening to good news or bad news?
