The apostle Paul writes- ‘In Him you also trusted, after you heard the word of truth, the Gospel of your salvation; in whom also, having believed, you were sealed with the Holy Spirit of promise’.
‘In Him you also trusted’ is Paul’s way of saying that to be a Christian is to trust in Jesus. The great apostle wants to emphasise that being a Christian means having a personal relationship with Jesus Christ rather than undergoing meaningless rites and rituals. The Gospel, which is also described as the ‘Word of Truth’, means the good news about what Jesus accomplished through His life, death and resurrection.
You will have noticed that all that Paul requires in order to be a Christian is to trust/believe. Those who do so are ‘sealed with the Holy Spirit’ which means they have got God’s mark of ownership upon them, which is none other than God Himself!
