Pontus Pilate desperately wants to know who Jesus really is, so he asks Him the million dollar question- ‘are you the king of the Jews’? This is a loaded question as if Jesus gives a negative answer He will have denied the truth. If He gives a positive answer it will be taken as a political challenge to Roman rule.
What does Jesus do? He gives an answer in the affirmative but in such a way that it is clear that His Messiah kingship is not a political threat to Rome.
“My kingdom is not of this world. If My kingdom were of this world, My servants would fight, so that I should not be delivered to the Jews; but now My kingdom is not from here.”
In these words, and in many others that Jesus spoke, it is clear that His kingdom is not about politics, might and power (something that many of his followers have forgotten through the ages) but is a spiritual kingdom that can be entered right now through repenting of one’s sins and placing faith’s faith fully and only in Jesus.
To enter the Kingdom is to know the King!
