An Infallible faith! Acts 1.1-8

The former account I made, O Theophilus, of all that Jesus began both to do and teach, 2 until the day in which [a]He was taken up, after He through the Holy Spirit had given commandments to the apostles whom He had chosen, 3 to whom He also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days and speaking of the things pertaining to the kingdom of God. Last Sunday we continued our new series of studies on the book of Acts. One of the things we especially looked at is that Luke states quite categorically that He (Jesus) also presented Himself alive after His suffering by many infallible proofs, being seen by them during forty days.

Despite what critics might like to think Christianity is based on the person of Jesus and the historical fact of his resurrection. And yes, it is an historical fact! This marks Christianity off from most other religions- which have little historical basis being rather airy and fairy in what they are based upon. I am so thankful that God has given us very good reason to accept Biblical Christianity as rock solid religion.

One man who thought differently was Frank Morison. This man couldn’t understand how Christians could be so gullible as to believe this whole ‘Jesus business’ when everybody knows that dead men don’t come back to life. What’s more Morison, being a journalist and well skilled in sizing up arguments, decided to write a book disproving Christianity. To do this Morison knew that he would only have to do one thing- disprove the resurrection of Christ. Pretty easy, right....?

Morison’s problem was that the more that he investigated the facts the more he came to see, and could see no other way of seeing, that Jesus Christ did indeed step out of the tomb that first Easter Sunday proving himself to be nothing less than the Son of God! So, in the end, Frank Morison wrote his book and entitled it ‘Who Moved the Stone’ in which he presents the evidence for the resurrection! In fact the first chapter of the book is entitled ‘the book that refused to be written’- that book being his original idea of writing a book against Jesus’ resurrection! Another great book is Lee Strobel’s ‘Finding the Real Jesus: A Guide for Curious Christians and Skeptical Seekers’.

You will find this book in our shop ‘Good news 4 you’ on the Octagon and I would challenge you to read it if you have any doubts about the ‘many infallible proofs’ of Jesus’ resurrection. But be warned- looking at the facts is a highly dangerous business for a sceptic/atheist/agnostic to do.....
